5 Questions to ask your New Jersey Wedding Photographer

Finding the right photographer for your New Jersey Wedding is one of the hardest tasks you’ll face with your big day. There are so many to choose from, how do I know which one to go with? Here are 5 simple tips for helping you choose your wedding photographer

  1. What is your Style & Approach?

This is probably the most important question you can ask in your search for a wedding photographer in New Jersey. This will let you know if you’re compatible with your photographer’s style. Head to their website and make sure you like everything about their photos, the style, the colors, and just how the couples look in the photos. Then, ask them about their style; what do they call it? why is their style the way it is?

On top of this, ask them what their approach is to get these photos.

This will show how hands-on your photographer is or is not. If you’re looking to get some intense magazine-style photos, you need to make sure that your photographer is that type of photographer. Or, if you want a photographer who’ll sit out of the way and take purely candid photos, you need to make sure they can do that. Our style is a mix of photojournalistic and candid. Being aware of when to apply each is also a great skill that we believe we’ve mastered! View Our best photos here!

2. Are you insured?

This is very important. This will distinguish the professionals from the amateurs. The majority of New Jersey Wedding Venues will require that your photographer be insured. Being insured will prove that your photographer is a real professional and has your best interest in mind. We are insured for $1,000,000 through the Professional Photographers Association.

3. Do you work with a second photographer?

It’s important to know whether or not your photographer will be taking photos using a second photographer. This will completely change how your day flows and will inform when everyone starts to get ready. It’s also needed for your guest count, so make sure they tell you all the people they’ll have with them. We offer a second photographer with all of our wedding photography packages

4. What is your Backup process?

Probably the most ignored question, but definitely one of the most important ones! The moment we’re done taking our photos, we need to make backups of the photos. The last thing you’ll want is your big day being lost because the photographer didn’t take the time to back up their photos. This isn’t a knock on newer photographers at all, but once you’ve been doing wedding photography for a while, you understand just how important having a backup is. We use cameras that have 2 card slots each, allowing us to automatically have 2 copies of the photos from each camera. Once your day has ended and we arrive back home, your photos are immediately backed up to a local hard drive (on the computer), an external hard drive, and cloud storage.

5. Can I see a full wedding gallery?

This will show the photographers’ style throughout the day. It’s easy to show the best photos on your website, but oftentimes it’s the other photos that couples want to see. Family photos are often not shown due to privacy concerns, or maybe it’s those subtle details of all the decor you really want to see. Be sure to ask your photographer to see exactly how they’ll capture your New Jersey Wedding.
